Situated in the heart of North Shropshire with views over beautiful open countryside, the cottage is a fully self contained part of the owner’s farmhouse. Although extended over time the original farmhouse dates back to the late 17th century and some of the original timber structure can still be seen.
Lakeview cottage, accessed through its own separate entrance, has recently been extensively modernised to provide high quality accommodation in which guests can unwind and enjoy the peace and quiet this rural setting affords. The cottage is situated in the centre of the owner’s land where cattle and sheep graze the pastures along with the ducks, geese and hens. A short walk across the field gives access to the lake where guests can sit and watch the resident waterfowl peacefully going about their lives; they are extremely photogenic so bring your camera and pack a picnic.
The farm is home to an array of wildlife, hares, pheasants and grey squirrels regularly pass though the garden to the fields, a pair of swans, Canada and Bean geese and a variety of ducks are winter visitors to the lake, flocks of Fieldfares stop off to feed on their migration, Swallows are summer visitors whilst three types of resident owls can often be heard and seen. July and August are great months for spotting the young of many of our residents and summer visitors.
If you fancy exploring, the best way to experience the area is on foot, bring wellingtons or walking boots. A footpath runs through the farm and maps are available to borrow to ensure your safe return. The village of Moreton Say (the burial place of “Clive of India”) is worth the short stroll to see its beautiful Norman Church. The local town is Market Drayton, home of Gingerbread, which has both a farmer’s livestock auction and a colourful street market on Wednesdays and offers easy access to the Shropshire Union Canal. For those wanting attractions further a field please refer to the Visit section.
Access from the highway is via a long stone and concrete track, past a neighbouring farm and cottage with Styche Farm at the track end. There is no passing traffic. There is an large level concrete area for parking two cars and can also be used by children to ride their bicycles.
